About the course

Emergency first aid at work (EFAW) is a popular 1-day training course that is designed to provide first aiders with the knowledge and skills they need to respond effectively to emergency situations in the workplace, especially in a lower risk environment, and provide invaluable assistance to the patient.

  • Overview

Our comprehensive program offers thorough training in basic first aid techniques including CPR, wound care and handling medical emergencies such as heart attacks and strokes. We prioritise hands-on learning ensuring participants feel confident and capable in real-life situations. The course involves a series of practical and multiple choice assessments and upon successful completion delegates will receive a certificate valid for 3 years.

  • What you'll learn

The qualification covers topics such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. It also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED, providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock.

  • How you're assessed

This qualification is assessed by a series of practical demonstrations and a multiple choice exam.

  • Your certificate

All successful students will be issued with an Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate which lasts for a period of 3 years, along with a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualifications.

  • Before you come

You are attending a First Aid or Pre-Hospital Care training course, so we recommend comfortable clothing and footwear due to the practical nature of the session. To correctly assess specific skills, you will be asked to complete practical assessments, including CPR and safe use of an AED, which must be completed on the floor.

If the Learner has difficulty kneeling on the floor, they may practise with the manikin on a table or chair if it is safe. In real life, the casualty is likely to fall to the floor, so the Learner must demonstrate CPR and the safe use of an AED with the manikin on the floor at least once. Padding such as a folded coat may be provided to kneel on during the assessment. When using an AED trainer, the Learner must perform the skill without assistance from a third party. The Learner must demonstrate at least 2 cycles of CPR before applying the AED pads in the correct position and then follow the AED instructions for at least 2 further cycles without assistance from a third party. (Section 4b)

During the course you will learn practical skills and have opportunities to apply them in real-life scenarios. Our trainers will be available to answer any questions you may have.
